Siang Hee Restaurant @ Serangoon Garden Market & Food Centre

Last day of the first month & our first full-strength meetup for the year! 😀

Tzechar at hawker centre was really enjoyable! Apart from having relatively difficult-to-access locations unlike restaurants in shopping malls, I quite like dining at hawker centres having tzechar because it just felt more carefree with less boundaries and restrictions! And I really like how we all can just gather round the table and eat and talk, and this is also a rather budget option, especially with larger groups! Happy to go back to basics like that! 😀 ❤

Siang Hee is located somewhere near to Chomp Chomp, and apparently no seat reservations is required which is good! We ordered their specialities – Pumpkin Cream Prawns, Coffee Pork Ribs, Pig Trotters, Prawn Paste Chicken- and also 2 dishes of vegetables. And I absolutely love their pumpkin cream prawns! *v* I can’t say I taste much of pumpkin but that cream is so creamy and it reminds me of cheeeese – lots of love for this dish omg! One prawn just isn’t enough for me 😀 I quite like the coffee pork ribs too and they are quite easy to eat haha! Overall I thought their specialities are not bad though the veg was not fantastic.

Just thankful thankful thankful for so many things in my life (:

Chicken Up @ Tanjong Pagar

I am not that into chicken so I probably can’t appreciate these that much :/

But this Yangpa Bomb is really da bomb!

Yangpa Bomb @ Chicken Up

It’s a new dish – the presentation is cool and the onion is just super shiok! Haha and I like the fluffy truffle sauce that comes with it as well (It’s that middle one out of the three sauces)!

Ramen Santouka @ The Central, Clarke Quay

Kara-Miso Ramen @ Ramen Santouka

Kara-Miso Ramen @ Ramen Santouka

A few years back, it was just the 4 of us and we were all only in our second year of university.

And now, the size of the party doubled, and half of the group has already stepped into the working world.

Ramen doesn’t taste as mindblowingly good as how I’d remembered it to be, yet this eclectic mix of friends – some of whom I have known for close to ten years – interestingly, still retained that bit of familiarity like how I’ve remembered them to be. It seems that a lot has changed over the years, but then again, it felt that nothing much has really changed.

To be very honest, I always wonder where I fit in here because the line between Sec School friends and JC mates has always been a blurry one for me. And it worried me a little before I came for this meetup, but surprisingly it turned out well, exceeding my expectations.

May we all grow mellow with the passage of time and Perhaps one day I could genuinely find my place here, but for now this is good enough – I am glad for the company.

& Bijin Nabe Again

With so many food options available to try out in Singapore, one principle I keep in mind while meeting up to eat is to avoid repeat visits. Yet, Bijin Nabe again, because this time the principle does not hold. I could clearly feel the difference: This time, I am eating to meeting up.

I was really excited to meet them, especially when our last meetup was 3 years ago, just before we all entered university! There are so many things for us to catch up on, though I could not help but notice some moments of silence here and there. Nonetheless, I was still really glad to meet up with old friends to just reminisce about the past and laugh about random things – can’t believe this is the 10th year we have known one another! (:

Somehow being around old friends like them makes me feel like myself – not exactly the real me whom I have come to realise now, but rather it brings out the old me back in those younger times when I could just yak and yak and yak loudly without a care in the world; It’s the old self whom I would somehow miss at times.

Lady M @ Orchard Central (& 18 Chefs Again!)

I like how Eighteen Chefs gives me such budget student price options and also provides a reasonable place to have a meetup dinner (:

IMG_20150111_185108

It’s black pepper sauce baked cheese pasta with chicken sausage this time!

And desserts omg finally tried Lady M! Had a little hiccup but I appreciate how the staff handled it by getting us another cake!

The decor of the Orchard outlet is so cool and refreshing! The ambience is so nice and relaxing that I thought this will definitely be a good place to chill and rest after all the shopping at Orchard!

Gâteau aux Marrons; Signature Mille Crêpe; Green Tea Mille Crêpe @ Lady M

The Signature Mille Crêpe tastes sweet but not cloyingly sweet, for me at least! The Green Tea one has a rich green tea/matcha taste – to be honest I can’t really distinguish good matcha desserts because as long as I can taste the matcha that’s good enough for me haha! Matcha/Green Tea desserts never seem to go wrong anyways (: And the Gâteau aux Marrons had a nutty and refreshing touch to it!

Omg I just love cakeeees ’nuff said! ╰(*´︶`*)╯

爭鮮 Sushi Express Opening Special @ NEX

It’s been so long since I’ve had revolving sushi! Because for me Jap food is always meant for buffets hahaha Anyway these are not bad for the price (1 plate @ $1++)! The queue was so long that I heard someone asking “Eat for free ah?” This was one of the longest times I stood in the queue for food but for that price…oh wells I shan’t complain that much! *v*

The two of us had 30 plates in total, and I was pleasantly surprised to feel rather full when I finished! ^o^ (Y) And also happy it has been a good catch up too! (:

Island Café @ TANGS, Orchard

The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the menu was, “This is some really atas hawker food”

image

Black Pepper Crab Tung Hoon

And it sure is. But at least it came with some cool garnish and a lil more 料, so overall I am still contented with what I got! My friend recommended the crayfish laksa here but to make eating less messy, I ordered the tung hoon which is not bad as well – I like heh (:

And I honestly enjoyed myself laughing around, talking about random stuffs and feeling more at ease – It definitely felt different and I like this much better compared to some other times back then. This is not full strength, but previously I would never have expected a meetup of some sort when we are back.

Made me miss those exchange times (:

image

Avocado Milkshake @ Food R Us, Farrer Road

Avocado Milkshake that looks creamy like durian, tastes sweet unlike what I expected of avocados, and reminds me of the white cookies we eat during Chinese New Year (kueh bangkit i realise) – Guess I’m really looking forward to Chinese New Year this year!

Meetup with a friend, and after the meetup I wish I can believe in what I believe in more strongly and fearlessly

NEW YEAR’S DAY LUNCH! :D

Home-Cooked Bibimbap!

So you see how much our family likes Korean food – we like it so much that my mom prepares some form of Korean dish so often and then gives it her own local twist (:

Or maybe why she prepares it so often is because it is relatively easier to replicate Korean food at home; Nonetheless we all love to have Korean food!

This one is really nice (Y) And this is also the reason why I would rarely voluntarily have Korean food outside of home during meetups~

HAPPY NEW YEAR & To a greater 2015 ahead (:
